Introducing Lou Dalton x Farnol

Lou Dalton’s collaboration with Farnol has arrived.

We are excited to announce our very first collaboration with influential designer Lou Dalton. Lou is one of the foremost new wave of British designers, who we consider to share Farnol’s rooted-in-simplicity design ethos.

We chose Lou to put her own lens over the Farnol Everyday Collection not only due to her exceptional talent, but also her unique vision and principles. We aimed to create a truly original collection; paying homage to the core of the Lou Dalton aesthetic whilst drawing influence from Farnol’s own collection in palette and style.

Lou Dalton is known for her attention to detail. Most familiar in the fashion scene as a menswear designer, this collaboration not only highlights her talent and understanding of the technicalities of menswear, but also showcases the Lou Dalton signature aesthetic translated into womenswear.

Characterised by mens’ and womens’ everyday wardrobes, mixed heavily with the utilitarian and workwear detailing found throughout Lou Dalton’s work, this new line unites two British brands for an exclusive spring/summer collection.

We are delighted to be working with such a talent for our first collaboration, which is the first in our series with Lou Dalton.

In this exclusive interview, Lou talks us through the collection, her inspiration, and wardrobe essentials.

How would you describe your design aesthetic?

Thoughtful, considered with a strong attention to detail.

There’s a lot of brands out there to collaborate with, why did you choose FARNOL?

I have known the Design Director Steve Atkinson for a very long time. Having been lucky enough to work with Steve in the past, when Steve approached me initially regarding the collaboration, it was a pretty straightforward decision. Steve is great to work with, so I had complete confidence in working with him, as I knew that whatever he was working on, or whomever he was working for, would be credible. Like most of the collaborations I have been fortunate to work on, the main drive behind these has always been about introducing the Lou Dalton Brand to a different customer base / demographic with the hope that at some point it may well trickle through to the collaborators consumer, buying into Lou Dalton as a brand.

To have been given the opportunity to not only develop a capsule collection for men but womenswear too, was exciting. Farnol have a very clear vision of who they are and what they want.

To work on a range for a consumer outside the LD demographic has been a joy, not only has is it been incredibly rewarding but an absolute privilege to work with such a talented focused group of individuals.

What was the inspiration behind the collection?

I was enthused and inspired by the Farnol ethos, “Good quality products that cost less. Considered design with a strong focus on fabric and detail”. The first introduction into the Lou Dalton x Farnol Collaboration for SS18, takes its inspiration from the everyday wardrobe of a Man and Woman mixed heavily with utilitarian and workwear detailing. Natural fibres, indigo seersucker, washed denim, crisp cottons all handled with a laid-back approach, play homage to the core of the Lou Dalton aesthetic whilst influencing Farnol’s own collection in both palette and style, making the collaboration both unique and original.

What are your top picks from the collection?

For Men, the indigo checked cotton seersucker shorts and short-sleeved shirt, the dress trouser in tan and workwear jacket.

For Women, my top picks are the exposed pocket bag short and the oversized pocket t-shirt. Just effortlessly cool, straightforward pieces in great fabrics. Well-made and very well priced.

What are three pieces every man and every woman should have in their wardrobe?

Three pieces men should have in their wardrobe include the everyday four pocket worker shirt, everyday chino pant and the everyday short sleeve pima t-shirt.

Key pieces for women include the everyday twill jacket, everyday skinny trousers and everyday pima t-shirt.
